Solid Wood Benches and Custom Seating
"FREELANCE"
This stout, sculptural chair was originally designed to complement the "Roundabout" dining table. Over the years, I have also adapted this piece to serve as a comfortable reading or occasional chair. Shown here are versions made from bubinga and wenge, and also English walnut. Available with or without armrests.
"GRAFTED"
This versatile bench can be made as a single-seat stool or all the way up to a 5-person bench for an entry way or waiting room. This is a highly customizable piece, both in size and materials, and can even be fitted with a low backrest. Both versions shown here are made from orchard-salvaged claro walnut.
"HIGHTOWER"
This high stool is perfectly at home in front of a bar, at a bistro table, or around a high top dining table. This version is made using English walnut with wenge accents and is shown with or without a low backrest.
"FLARE"
The "Flare" bench has long been a show favorite and has been installed in entryways, family rooms, and even at the foot of a bed. I have made several variations of this bench over the years with combinations of walnut, white oak, purple heart, and even leather. Shown here is a cherry base with bubinga seats. This can be expanded up to a four person bench as well.
"STRAPLESS"
A single slab of black walnut makes up the sculptural seat of this two-person bench. It can easily be expanded to seat 3 or 4 people and can be made from a large variety of different wood species.
"TANDEM"
An incredibly solid and functional bench well-suited for residential and commercial use alike, this is one of the first benches I designed over 20 years ago, and it is still a favorite. Shown here are walnut versions with and without back rests as well as a whitewashed white oak version.
"TSUNAMI"
“Tsunami” is the newest addition to the bench collection. Shown here using Claro Walnut, this bench was designed specifically for a wonderful couple right here in Colorado Springs. I've also made this bench with padded leather seats and in a variety of wood species.
"BOGEN"
This versatile piece doubles as both a bench and table and complements accent spaces perfectly. I have even adapted this basic design into custom coffee tables and dining tables. Shown here with a white oak top and purple heart base.
"OZ"
These two chairs were originally designed for each of my kids, who both played parts in the design. Capable of being a dining chair or used for desk seating, this is perfect for use in the library or study. These versions are made from ebonized black solid ash allowing the grain texture to shine through. Over years of use, the lighter tones of the ash will show through adding to the overall character and beauty of the chair.
"SOLO"
A single seat adaptation of the “Tandem” bench, this sculpted chair was inspired by traditional Asian architecture. This bench can be custom ordered in different materials and can also be extended to seat multiple people. Shown here in claro walnut.

Custom Seating
Seating is an absolute must in any house, but that doesn’t mean it has to be generic. Even the most used and needed piece of furniture deserves to be a unique piece of furniture art. From a complete set of dining room chairs to the personalized reading chair sitting in that cozy corner of the room, there is no other piece of furniture more challenging to build than the chair.
Custom Chairs
Chairs experience more stress than nearly any other form of furniture. They are constantly on the move being slid from one place to the next, tipped, rocked, and even used as step stools on a regular basis. Because they must support and withstand the everyday stresses we impose upon them, the engineering and joinery behind the design is critical. Combining comfort and functionality with art while ensuring the brute strength necessary to survive a lifetime of abuse is a tall order indeed. But these criteria are what drive the designs of every bench, stool, and chair that I create. You can rest comfortably, assured that my handmade chairs are not only built to stun but to survive all of life’s daily wear and tear.
Solid Wood Benches
Perhaps some of the earliest examples of my Asian-inspired designs are my solid wood benches. They are among my most popular pieces of furniture and are scattered across the country in homes and businesses alike. Perfectly at home in a business lobby and equally so in the home greeting guests as an entry bench or foyer bench, my custom benches are designed to last and compliment your work and home spaces. Call it what you like — an entryway bench, foot-of-the-bed bench, or even a waiting room bench — these custom benches are comforting, inviting, and artistic pieces of functional studio furniture.
